About SPCP
The South Philly Co-Op Playschool is a play-based preschool for children aged 3-5. SPCP operates Monday through Friday, September through June, 8:30-3pm at the East Passyunk Community Center.
SPCP embraces a child-led, play-based education designed to foster empathy, facilitate problem-solving and peaceful conflict resolution, and provide children with complex opportunities for discovery, building upon their emergent knowledge. In partnership inside and outside of the classroom, the teacher and parents work together as guides, co-explorers, and extenders of play, following children’s diverse interests and respecting each child as an individual human being.

Parents are responsible for SPCP operations, including assisting in the classroom, purchasing supplies, setting policy and budgets for programming, and fundraising. In choosing to become a member of the SPCP, families are expected to take responsibility for all aspects of operations and will have a significant influence on the shape and direction of the community.
Membership is open to all persons able to use the SPCP's services and those willing to accept the responsibilities of Co-Op membership without gender, social, racial, political, or religious discrimination.
SPCP is currently closed, but will return Fall 2022. An application for our wait list is available here.
